The story of Natália
May 2019
“In my job I need to have the feeling that my boss is interested in my work, that my opinion is heard and that I am an important part of the company. I work for a big and successful corporation and I am happy to say that I have that feeling. Working for a corporation doesn’t need to be necessarily bad. It has its pros and cons but I like the environment there. In my company, I always have people around me to count on if I need some help. There are also a lot of opportunities for continual education, mutual feedback, great organization and flexibility in working hours. I perceive all of that as great advantages. I think sometimes you just need to rise above the negatives. For example, while many would dislike compulsory training plans, I try to see it as an opportunity to give my best. That makes me happy. I think it’s important to realize that we don’t just work for ourselves, but also for the company and the customer. If I don’t like something I am not afraid to say it and confront others. It’s sad for me to see that among some of my colleagues it’s not the case. When they are angry or don’t like something in the company they often complain to each other privately. Of course, they will continue to be dissatisfied or frustrated because murmuring to your workmates solves nothing. People should not be afraid to address those issues openly with their superiors. Trust among employees may be the most crucial thing for a good atmosphere in the company. I agree that it’s important for the company to promote certain values in the workplace. However, I also believe that the values of individual employees are also shaping the company. Diversity, equality, and balance are then, in my opinion, basic building blocks for the ideal working environment.”
